Enlighting and enjoyable read As an ecologist, I found this myself wanting better scientific backup for the conclusions Flores makes--but that's my hang up. Flores is a respected researcher who has contributed significantly to our scientific and more general understanding of the nature of Coyote. "Coyote America" wasn't written for a science audience primarily, but to enlighten and educate a more general population about this most fascinating species--and it credibly accomplishes this goal. Read and enjoy it--and if you are a scientist, get over needing extensive and peer-reviewed citations.Clever Coyote This book is fabulous. It reveals, or rather the coyote reveals, how different European and the Great Plains tribes were, how science was used to destroy (big surprise!), how it failed (another big surprise!), and how so many people refused to accept the facts staring them in the face. Coyotes are like us: survivors, opportunists, and problem solvers. Yes, they have been persecuted for over a century and that part is very ugly, but they still not only survived this-they are thriving. We have a lot to learn from them.I spend a lot time outdoors, hunting and fishing. Over the last few years I've seen more and more coyotes, often wondering why. After reading Coyote America, I now understand why this is happening and appreciate how special the song dog really is. I'll never look at them the same way.
